Halo: The Master Chief Collection developer 343 Industries is fixing a bunch of player-reported issues with a content update later today, the studio said in a forum post. But as 343 noted yesterday, a patch to fix severe multiplayer matchmaking problems isn’t coming until sometime next week.

An update that 343 rolled out earlier today was aimed at improving the stability of dedicated servers and at setting the stage for future matchmaking content updates. One content update is coming this evening to address problems with the campaign, user interface and some party issues with matchmaking.

What tonight’s update doesn’t include is a solution for the troubles that have plagued Halo players attempting to get into multiplayer matches in any of the four titles included in The Master Chief Collection. That fix is coming in a larger patch that’s focused on matchmaking performance, an update that’s scheduled to be released next week.

In an open letter to Master Chief Collection players yesterday, executive producer Dan Ayoub said 343 had figured out the primary problem affecting matchmaking and had identified a solution. The studio also trimmed the number of available multiplayer match playlists in an effort to lead players to the ones that were working the best. Ayoub noted that people have been able to matchmake successfully when searching for anywhere from 15 seconds to four minutes, and advised players who don’t get in within four minutes to cancel the search and try again.

“I realize this isn’t ideal, but it’s temporary while we sort things out,” said Ayoub. “I’d like to personally apologize to you all for the current situation. I can assure you we’re attacking this from all directions from 343 Industries to the Xbox platform, and we won’t rest until it’s what it should be.”

As a result of the problems affecting multiplayer matches in The Master Chief Collection, 343 has decided to push back the beginning of the Halo Championship Series, Halo franchise community manager Andy Dudynsky announced today. Preseason online cup play was scheduled to begin Nov. 16, but is now set for Nov. 23 to give 343 time to focus on ironing out the issues with The Master Chief Collection. The Halo Championship Series, which 343 and Microsoft Studios announced earlier this month, is an eSports league for Halo that is kicking off with Halo 2: Anniversary.
