Since quite a few of us seem to be playing various different games, what do you think of us using an instant messaging client designed for gamers like XFire? Then we could communicate while in different games. I tried one called Overwolf once which was quite good.
Good idea Flash, what we were planning is to have a Vent or Teamspeak server for the Guild Alliance for Voice chat. I’ve never seen Overwolf, I’ll have to check that out. Do you know if it chews up your system resources?
I don’t think it does. It’s in Beta and has been for a while but when I used it it seemed very light.
I just installed Overwolf to check it out and it states that it doesn’t support STO or TOR, but it does support Champs. Will try XFire next.
I will give XFire a try too. I’ve been looking around for alternatives but I don’t think there are any that supports all the games we want, only XFire.
So I installed XFire and even though it is supposed to support STO if you don’t have the Steam version the XFire client won’t detect it, even if I try manually it doesn’t work. The application itself seemed a bit clunky too.
I’m going to try Overwolf again because I found this blog post on their site which says they now support STO (it’s from a year ago!).

I don’t think they update their games list properly but if you look at the blog they say they supportChampions Online
DC Universe Online
Star Trek OnlineI’m sure they are working on TOR because so many people requested it. They also support APB…my other favourite game. 🙂
I will post how I go.
I just purchased a Teamspeak3 server, info is here http://www.guildalliance.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=65
I just tested Overwolf and it works with STO, it also has the teamspeak3 32bit integration, which is just right.
